Travel Series: Misc

Miscellaneous activities in Germany that I want to jot down but don't fit into a trip post. Bowling- we spent a lot of time bowling on Baumholder. The food was good, it was indoors, and the kids loved it. Best part was the guy never charged us! Say what? Yeah you read that right, he charged Matt if he bowled but the kids were always free. Pretty sweet deal. The Bernards-one of my favorite people in the world, Nicolle, is stationed with her hubby in Germany. They have the cutest little boy, Cubby- and it was ridiculously awesome getting to see her because she keeps me grounded and sane and is my sounding board. I call her mom. And I'm not the only one to do this- she gives the best advice and just knows how to make you feel good/better. And she introduced me to Doners- what I'd give for a Doner right now. How chocolate- the kids and I had hot cocoa just about every single day in Germany. I now associate hot chocolate with Germany. BX adventure- the BX on Ramstein is huge. HU...

Travel Series: Austria & Bavaria

Image
Our final weekend adventure in Europe would be.....Salzburg. I wanted to go to different country because...why not? And Austria was the closest one that we hadn't visited yet and driving there would include a trip to Bavaria so it quickly became an obvious destination. It ended up being for the better though because every week Matt and I got to say to ourselves, "what country do you want to go to this weekend?" SAY WHAT??? I mean who does that? That's pretty cool and I'm snickering to myself as I write this because it just seems so silly that we were able to even say that phrase. What country should we visit this weekend?! *Blessed* Our drive down to Austria from Munich started off pretty shady. The snow star...

Travel Series: Space-A to Europe

For this next instalment of the travel series....I'm going to write about our European adventure. Sometime in early summer, we found out Matt was going to be deploying for six months. Bummer right? Well, as a military family, we know these things are going to happen so while you can't always be 100% ready, we accept it when the news comes. Then we found out where he was going. GERMANY. Say what???? We also found out that the person he would be replacing was a friend of ours from our Lt days in Arizona. Even better! So then we started doing our research and I quickly learned that his deployment was going to be more like a vacation....uh-huh. Ok, don't get me wrong, the guy was going to have to work. His mission was going to be extremely important and it was a huge honor and responsibility but also a wonderful opportunity. While he couldn't tell me too much about what he was doing, I knew it was going to be meaningful. BUT, while he wasn't at work- he would be livin...
